Geophysical surveys measure variations in the Earth's physical properties such as magnetic susceptibility, radioactive element concentration, and conductivity. Any change in the Earth's near-surface that causes a measurable change in these parameters presents a potential application for airborne geophysics and its many uses. With modern computer systems, laser altimeters, GPS positioning, high sensitivity sensors, innovative data processing techniques, and skilled interpretation, airborne geophysical data are often superior to ground surveys at a much lower cost and with no environmental impact.
